South African amapiano star Kelvin Momo is facing legal action from Australian promoter Ace Events, which is seeking the liquidation of his company, Kelvin Momo Production, over an unpaid debt. The dispute stems from Momo’s failure to perform at two scheduled shows in Australia in November 2024.

Ace Events, through its director Million Mwenge Butshiire, has filed papers in the Johannesburg High Court claiming that Momo and his team, including manager Devon Peterson, breached a contract. According to the agreement, Momo was booked to perform in Melbourne and Perth, but he failed to show up, despite receiving a 50% deposit of US$10,000 for Melbourne and US$7,500 for Perth.

The promoter says that after Momo missed the flights arranged for the shows, he and his manager promised to reschedule, but failed to do so. Consequently, the promoter had to cancel the events, refund ticket holders, and cover additional costs, including accommodation and flights for Momo and his team.

Ace Events is now demanding R2.8 million from Momo’s company, covering the deposits, logistics, and reputational damages. The promoter claims that despite sending a letter of demand, Momo’s team has not responded, prompting the legal action. The case continues in court as Ace Events seeks a winding-up order.
