DURBAN – South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi said the government would have to clear immigrants camped outside the Durban Home Affairs offices.
It comes after the government issued an ultimatum to immigrants, forcing them to return to their neighbourhoods. According to the eNCA, the camping party would face arrest or detention at the Lindela repatriation centre.
Some have been sleeping on the streets and around government buildings for about a month, following nationwide protests demanding that undocumented immigrants leave the country by June 30.
The choices are apparently being met with opposition, with immigrants claiming that being transported to Lindeni would render them undocumented, producing extra confusion in an already tense situation.
