Manzini – The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) has celebrated the graduation of its third cohort from the “Mastering Generative AI for Professionals” programme, marking the largest group to complete the course since its inception.

The ceremony was held at The George Hotel in Manzini, where professionals from various fields were recognised for successfully cross-skilling to meet the demands of an increasingly digital workplace.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.M. Thwala said artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of the future but a present-day requirement for working professionals.

“Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but a present requirement, serving as an active tool for modern teachers, lawyers, civil servants, and financial experts to optimize workflows and reclaim valuable time,” Prof. Thwala said.

He added that true mastery of AI goes beyond speed, calling on graduates to apply the tools with responsibility, professional integrity, and human judgement and not simply for efficiency, but with a critical understanding of their limitations.

Prof. Thwala also pointed to the broader significance of the UNESWA Artificial Intelligence Academy, noting that it operates on its own generated revenue while addressing a critical skills shortage across the region, a model he described as a practical demonstration of the university’s commitment to societal impact.

Graduates were urged to carry their training beyond the classroom and into their industries as ambassadors of responsible innovation and AI literacy.
