Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal against Uzbekistan in the first six minutes of the game, going on to score his second on the 39th, putting Portugal in their first Group K win.

Ronaldo, 41, who has played and scored in six World Cups since 2006, addressed his critics following Portugal’s 1-1 opening tie with DR Congo.

Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Vinicius Jr., and Harry Kane had all delivered impressive performances for their home teams: Argentina, France, Norway, Brazil, and England, respectively.

Ronaldo ended his goal drought by scoring two goals, one from Joao Cancelo’s cross and the other from Bruno Fernandes’ finish following a through-ball, which made him Portugal’s leading World Cup scorer with a total of 10 goals.

Alexandre Nuno Mendes scored in the 17th minute, prior to Ronaldo’s second towards the end of the first half.

In the second half, Uzbekistan’s goalkeeper Abduvahid Nematov scored an own goal in the 60th minute after a scuffle in the penalty box. Bruno Fernandes’s corner saw João Félix’s shot on target hitting Nematov’s right hand in.

Portugal’s left winger Rafael Leão scored in the final three minutes to secure a 5-0 victory.
