Manzini – Manzini public transport passengers are adjusting to the city’s new bus and taxi stops, which opened on Saturday after the main bus rank closed.
While severely crowded rush hours are usual, marshals on reflectors are quick to question people for their destinations and direct them to their buses.
It is the third day since Saturday, when the Manzini Municipal Council revealed plans to relocate the city’s main bus rank to make room for new projects. The bus stations were divided into three: the Old Trade Fair Site, the Satellite Bus Rank, and the Riverstone Mall.
Marshals say they’re taking complaints from both citizens and public transport providers. Most users ask where they may find their buses or taxis, while drivers offer modest suggestions for drop-offs and parking.
To alleviate traffic congestion, public transport drivers continue to call for the annulment of the drop-off protocol, which requires them to make a U-turn at Manzini Central School before coming to park, particularly at the Old Trade Fair site. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) officers are also visible, and public restrooms are available.
