MBABANE – Church leaders and congregants gathered at the Apostolic Faith Mission on Sunday as the fight against people trafficking and smuggling moved into places of worship.
The Prevention of People Trafficking and People Smuggling Secretariat, which operates under the Prime Minister’s Office, engaged with the church community as part of its ongoing awareness campaign. The session was organised in partnership with the three major church bodies in the country — the Council of Churches, the League of Churches, and the Conference of Churches.
Congregants, including youth and adults, were taken through the definitions of trafficking and smuggling, the various forms of exploitation involved, and the dangers of falling into smuggling networks. The Secretariat also issued practical safety tips, especially targeted at young people who are increasingly vulnerable to traffickers through social media.
Pastors received tailored guidance on spotting signs of trafficking within their churches, supporting prevention efforts, and responding appropriately when victims are identified. Discussions also covered reintegration support for survivors and the pastoral role in helping them rebuild their lives.
