NAMBoard blocks tomato, beetroot imports from August 11

Mbabane – The National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) has moved to restrict the importation of tomatoes and beetroot into Eswatini, citing an oversupply of the two vegetables in the local market.

The ban, set to take effect from August 11, 2025, comes after the board conducted an assessment which revealed that local farmers will produce sufficient quantities of both crops to meet national demand throughout the month.

Under the new directive, the importation of tomatoes and beetroot will be halted until further notice, with the restriction set to remain in place until local demand surpasses available supply.

NAMBoard says it will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the ban is lifted once stocks fall below acceptable thresholds, in a bid to prevent shortages in the market.

Importers seeking further information have been advised to contact Trade Analyst Musa Simelane or Sales and Market Manager Cynthia Simelane.
