Tavernier fires Bournemouth past 10-man Wolves

Marcus Tavernier scored in the fourth minute to give AFC Bournemouth their first Premier League victory of the season, defeating 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Bournemouth, who had challenged defending champions Liverpool in the opening weekend, dominated from the start. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s error allowed Antoine Semenyo to set up Tavernier, whose low shot deflected off Emmanuel Agbadou and into the net.

Wolves’ hopes of an equaliser suffered a blow in the second half when captain Toti Gomes was shown a red card for a foul on Evanilson. Despite several close chances, including a Semenyo strike that hit the crossbar and a Jorgen Strand-Larsen attempt denied by Djordje Petrovic, Bournemouth held on for the win.

Manager Andoni Iraola praised his team’s attacking approach, noting contributions from new signing Adrien Truffert at left-back and Amine Adli, who made a promising debut in the second half. The victory gives Bournemouth momentum as they prepare for an EFL Cup clash with Brentford and a Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolves remain without a point or goal after two consecutive defeats. Manager Vitor Pereira faces mounting challenges as injuries and suspensions limit his options ahead of upcoming matches against West Ham and Everton.
