Fulham hold Manchester United in opening home clash

Manchester United were left frustrated at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening after being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in their second Premier League outing of the season.

The visitors took the lead in the 58th minute when Leny Yoro rose to meet a corner, his header deflecting off Rodrigo Muniz and wrong-footing goalkeeper Bernd Leno. It was United’s first goal from a corner since February, offering relief after Bruno Fernandes had missed a first-half penalty by firing over the bar.

Fulham, however, refused to fade. Marco Silva’s men kept pressing and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when substitute Emile Smith Rowe, introduced moments earlier, darted to the near post to turn in a low cross with his first touch of the game.

The contest remained tense in the closing stages, with Harry Maguire heading just wide from a United corner and Fulham threatening from set-pieces as well. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, making his first league start for United, looked shaky under pressure, particularly when dealing with corners.

Despite creating the better chances in the first half, including an early strike from Matheus Cunha that struck the post, United failed to capitalise. Fulham grew into the game and ended strongly, leaving both sides to settle for a point.
