Mbabane – The University of Eswatini has launched a student and staff exchange programme with Malmö University in Sweden through an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility grant.
The programme is facilitated by UNESWA’s Eswatini Institute for Research in Traditional Medicine, Medicinal and Indigenous Food Plants. Vice Chancellor Prof. J.M. Thwala said the initiative will provide opportunities for students and staff to collaborate with international partners and advance research in the region.
Two students are currently participating in the exchange. Ms. Takitsi Sibonelo Dlamini, a Master of Science student in Chemistry, will spend five months in Sweden focusing on participatory research design methods under the supervision of Dr. Lizette Reitsma. Her traineeship is funded by The World Academy of Sciences and guided by Dr. Sibandze, Director of EIRMIP.
In return, UNESWA welcomed Ms. Anastasiia Cheliadina from Malmö University on August 11 for a one-month traineeship. She will study indigenous plants, including African wild ginger, working with local communities to understand their use, map plant populations, and explore conservation and sustainable management strategies.
