MBABANE – According to Jaco van der Merwe of Citizen Motoring, the Suzuki Grand Vitara GLX continues to impress as a practical and reliable family SUV. Van der Merwe reports that the long-term test vehicle has already covered nearly 2 000 kilometres, performing smoothly on daily commutes between school, work, and errands.
Rear passengers enjoy ample legroom and headroom, while the 310-litre boot accommodates regular loads. Folding the rear seats expands storage to 1 147 litres, enough for larger items such as a 29-inch mountain bike. The interior features leatherette trim, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, front and rear USB ports, and rear air vents. Additional features include a 360-degree camera, head-up display, and keyless start.
Van der Merwe notes that the SUV is powered by Suzuki’s KB15B 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, generating 77kW and 138Nm of torque through a four-speed automatic transmission. While some may prefer a manual, the automatic performs reliably even in heavy traffic. 
The exterior combines Splendid Silver paint with black side mirrors, silver roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, and a rear three-dimensional LED light bar.
Fuel consumption during city driving averaged 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres, higher than Suzuki’s claimed 6 litres, likely due to limited open-road use.
Priced at E453 900, the GLX competes with vehicles like the Toyota Corolla Cross and several Chinese SUVs. Van der Merwe says its comfort and features make it a strong contender in its segment.
