India patrol vessel delivers aid to Mozambique

Maputo – The Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet arrived in Maputo, Mozambique on Saturday, delivering 20 metric tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief material, including medicines and medical equipment, to Mozambican authorities.

The port call forms part of Sachet’s ongoing overseas deployment to Africa, reflecting India’s commitment to maritime cooperation under the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. The shipment aims to strengthen Mozambique’s public health and disaster management capacities.

During the visit, the crew will engage with Mozambican maritime agencies in professional exchanges on Marine Pollution Response, Maritime Search and Rescue, and Maritime Law Enforcement. Onboard training will cover Visit, Board, Search and Seizure operations, pollution response drills, joint cultural events, and friendly sports to enhance collaboration between the two maritime forces.

The crew, supported by NCC cadets and Assam Rifles personnel, will also participate in community projects including beach clean-ups and marine awareness programs with local youth, under India’s Puneet Sagar Abhiyan campaign to combat marine pollution.

The consignment marks the first tranche of medicines and equipment handed over to the Mozambican Ministry of Health. India will also support free medical initiatives, including an artificial limb camp for 600 beneficiaries in Nampula and a forthcoming medical camp in Tete, reinforcing cooperation in the health sector.
