Windhoek, Namibia – UNDP Namibia and the Namibia Revenue Agency met in Windhoek this week to review ongoing work under the Tax for SDGs Initiative and to map out new areas of collaboration that will strengthen the country’s fiscal governance and trade systems.
Senior officials from both institutions discussed what support is needed to improve customs operations, with particular attention to digital transformation tools that can speed up clearance processes and reduce bottlenecks at ports of entry. The talks also looked at how capacity building programmes can be expanded to equip officers with modern skills required in a rapidly changing trade environment.
The meeting further explored interventions designed to protect state revenue, including stronger oversight to curb illicit financial flows and measures to safeguard income generated from Namibia’s mineral sector. Support for women traders also formed part of the agenda, with the two institutions assessing progress made in creating a safer and more efficient cross border trading environment for women who rely on small scale commerce.
