Maputo – President Cyril Ramaphosa called on South African and Mozambican businesses to move from cautious exploration to strong partnerships during the South Africa-Mozambique Business Forum in Vilankulo at the close of the 4th Bi-National Commission.
Ramaphosa said South African companies bring technical expertise, managerial experience and access to capital that Mozambique needs, while Mozambican firms offer local market knowledge, community relationships and regulatory insight crucial for success. He added that collaboration can achieve outcomes neither country could manage alone.
Trade between the two nations continues to grow. Mozambique was South Africa’s main trading partner on the continent in 2024, with goods worth R119.4 billion exchanged, up from R114 billion in 2023. Exports from South Africa to Mozambique rose from R18.9 billion in 2023 to R19.4 billion last year, maintaining Mozambique among South Africa’s top five export destinations. 
Over the years, the countries have signed more than 70 agreements and memoranda of understanding covering agriculture, defence, health, transport, labour, border management and investment, reinforcing decades of cooperation and shared economic development.
