Telecom Namibia, Angola Telecom sign connectivity deal

Swakopmund – Namibia and Angola took a significant step towards deeper digital cooperation on Wednesday when Telecom Namibia and Angola Telecom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Commercial Terms Agreement in Swakopmund.

The agreement was signed by Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer Dr. Stanley Shanapinda and Angola Telecom Chief Executive Officer Adilson Miguel dos Santos, in the presence of Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, and Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira. The Angolan Ambassador to Namibia, H.E. Pedro Mutindi, also attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the signing, Theofelus said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to reliable and affordable digital infrastructure, which she described as critical for economic growth, service delivery and social inclusion.

Her Angolan counterpart said the agreement represents a clear political decision to deepen bilateral cooperation in digital infrastructure, positioning it as a key pillar for economic development, regional integration, and the strategic advancement of both nations. He added that the MoU is a concrete step towards developing a regional submarine cable system that will improve international connectivity, strengthen communications security, and boost the competitiveness of both economies.

The collaboration will improve cross-border connectivity by drawing on infrastructure such as the Equiano subsea cable and Angola’s planned Southern African Regional Submarine System (SARSSy).
