Accra – Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has taken to social media to confirm that he summoned the Acting South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Thando Dalamba, over the ongoing xenophobic attacks on Ghanaians and other Africans living in South Africa.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, 23 April 2026, Ablakwa said he conveyed the Government of Ghana’s strong condemnation of the attacks during the meeting with Dalamba.

“Earlier today I summoned the Acting South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Thando Dalamba. At the meeting, I conveyed the Government of Ghana’s strong condemnation of the continuous xenophobic attacks on Ghanaians and other Africans living in South Africa,” Ablakwa wrote.

The minister said Ghana is urging South African authorities to take decisive action in protecting the human rights and dignity of Ghanaian nationals and all Africans in the country.

“Ghana equally expects that the promised investigations be expedited and all perpetrators punished to serve as adequate deterrence,” he added.

Ablakwa also indicated that further steps have been taken by the ministry, without revealing details at this stage.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will communicate other steps we have taken in due course,” he said.

The tweet comes after Ghana formally lodged a protest with the South African High Commission in Accra earlier on Wednesday, following widely circulated videos showing foreign nationals, including Ghanaians, being harassed and intimidated in South Africa.
