Ezulwini – His Majesty King Mswati III on Saturday officially opened the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Ezulwini, cutting the ribbon on what ministers and executives are already calling a world-class facility that will reshape Eswatini’s position as a destination for global conferences, exhibitions, and business events.

The opening formed part of the three-day 40/58 Double Celebration, marking 40 years since His Majesty ascended to the throne in 1986, his Ruby Jubilee, as well as his 58th birthday.

Among those present for the historic occasion were His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho, His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini of the Zulu Nation, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who arrived in the Kingdom on Saturday. Also in attendance were former South African President Jacob Zuma, former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila, former Botswana President Ian Khama, Taiwan Special Envoy and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lin Chia-lun, Cabinet Ministers, Presiding Officers and Members of both Houses of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.

His Majesty toured the ICC in the company of the regional leaders, walking through the centre’s theatre where live performances were staged for the dignitaries. The King also toured the Royal Signature Expo, a high-end display of luxury vehicles inside the ICC featuring elite brands including Rolls Royce, Maybach, Porsche, McLaren, and BMW.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe praised His Majesty for the facility, describing the ICC as the King’s brainchild and saying it would immensely contribute to the economic growth of Eswatini as people from all parts of the world would come to the Kingdom to hold meetings there. The minister also extended his wishes to His Majesty on the 40-year reign commemoration and 58th birthday.

Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund Chief Executive Officer Khangeziwe Mabuza offered perhaps the most direct verdict on the new facility, calling it a “WOW” facility and praising its world-class design and standards.

Eswatini Water Services Corporation Managing Director Jabulile Mashwama also weighed in, describing the ICC as a world-class facility and a key milestone in the country’s infrastructure development and national progress.
