Modi visits UAE to boost strategic ties

Abu Dhabi – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United Arab Emirates this week for talks with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the two leaders exploring ways to deepen cooperation under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The discussions, held in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, covered progress across several sectors central to both countries’ development agendas, including the economy, investment, energy, space, food security, technology and artificial intelligence.

The two leaders also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and what Sheikh Mohamed and Modi described as their serious implications for regional and international peace and security, as well as their effects on maritime security, energy supplies and the global economy.

Modi used the meeting to reiterate India’s condemnation of Iranian terrorist attacks targeting civilians, civilian facilities and infrastructure in the UAE, saying the strikes constituted “a violation of sovereignty and international norms and laws.”

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing their development partnership and expanding cooperation in ways that support lasting prosperity for their peoples.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence; His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, along with a number of ministers and officials from both countries.
