Maseru – The Government of Lesotho will host two major governance events this month and next, aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency and service delivery across the public sector.
The Leadership Forum is scheduled for 21 to 23 June 2026, while the Accountability Summit will follow from 1 to 3 July 2026.
Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara announced the events at a press conference held to brief members of the media, saying Prime Minister Samuel Matekane had, in his inaugural address, committed the government to strengthening governance systems, enhancing accountability and eliminating corruption. 
Justice Majara said Lesotho had drawn inspiration from Rwanda’s successful implementation of good governance practices and was looking to adapt some of those approaches to the local context in order to improve service delivery. She noted that Rwanda’s achievements in governance had earned international recognition and served as a benchmark for Lesotho’s reform efforts.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Leadership Forum will give national leaders the opportunity to assess their own performance, strengthen service delivery across sectors and identify challenges that hinder efficient service provision.
The Accountability Summit will serve a different but complementary purpose, providing citizens and non-governmental organisations with a direct platform to engage with leaders, ask questions, seek clarification and give feedback on matters affecting them, with the goal of promoting transparency and public participation.
Justice Majara said both events form part of the government’s broader push to foster a culture of accountability and good governance, which she described as essential for Lesotho’s sustainable development.
Also present at the press conference were Ministers Honourable Stephen Mputi, Honourable Moeketsi Motšoane, Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo and Honourable Matjato Moteane.
