Mbabane – The Eswatini Institute of Accountants has launched a Generative AI course for the accounting profession, partnering with the University of Eswatini to prepare its members for the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the industry.
The programme was unveiled at UNESWA on Friday, offering an eight-week, fully online and self-paced course that combines practical learning with graded assessments, certification and 40 CPD points.
UNESWA Vice-Chancellor Prof J.M. Thwala welcomed the initiative, saying the future of the profession depends on a culture of lifelong learning and that while technology continues to evolve, its success ultimately rests on people. 
ESIA Chairperson Makhosazane Mhlanga CA(SD) set the tone for the launch with a direct challenge to the country’s accounting professionals.
“The future does not belong to people who fear change,” she said, urging accountants to embrace the opportunities presented by AI with courage.
Course overview presenter Sandile Dlamini told attendees that “accountants are the engines of the vehicle,” stressing the importance of combining emerging tools with essential principles such as data protection and professional judgment.
Dudu Nyembe CA(SD) addressed the practical realities of AI adoption, calling for human-in-the-loop accounting and making the case that technology cannot replace human thinking.
Owen Mavengere of the Pan African Federation of Accountants, who joined the proceedings virtually, commended the initiative and pointed to adaptability as a critical quality for professionals navigating the changing landscape.
