Mbabane – Eswatini’s finance minister, Neil Rijkenberg, said the E5 billion from the resolved 9th Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Heads of State Summit in Cape Town will allow the country to borrow from it.

Rijkenberg responded to his attendance at the summit as a member of His Majesty King Mswati III’s entourage last week.

SACU member countries convened to discuss regional economic cooperation and growth, and the discussions resulted in one major resolution: to establish the fund for regional integration objectives.

The minister stated that the finer elements, such as who would hold it and how the private sector will participate, are being worked out.

“The fund should really help Eswatini, where we can now also take loans from it. It’ll be another place where we can get loans from. And it should really be a good economic boost for us as a country,” he said.
