Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – Central Bank of Eswatini Governor Dr Phil Mnisi has been appointed Chairperson of the African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative (AfPI), giving Eswatini a leading role in shaping financial inclusion policies across the continent.

The appointment was announced yesterday during the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Global Policy Forum in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The Central Bank of Eswatini described the appointment as a significant achievement for the country, saying it provides Eswatini with an opportunity to contribute to Africa’s financial inclusion agenda while strengthening cooperation among countries on the continent.

As Chairperson of AfPI, Mnisi will lead financial inclusion policy discussions among AFI’s African member network. The African initiative forms part of the broader AFI global network, which brings together members from approximately 72 countries.

The chairmanship follows the work undertaken by the previous AfPI leadership over the past year.

Speaking after assuming the position, Mnisi acknowledged the contribution of the outgoing leadership to the initiative.

“I take this opportunity to recognise and commend Governor, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama and Second Deputy Governor Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, with the support of Dr. Alfred Hannig and the AFI team, for their commitment and stewardship of AfPI over the past year,” said Mnisi.
