MBABANE – The government has moved swiftly to respond to the growing outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the southern region of Shiselweni, with at least nine diptanks already affected.
Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini met with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Victor Mahlalela, on Thursday at the Private and Cabinet Office to discuss the country’s emergency response to the livestock disease.
The outbreak, which has disrupted farming activities and livestock movement in the region, prompted His Majesty’s Government to allocate a provisional E40 million to curb further spread. The NDMA has since set up four control checkpoints across Shiselweni to limit the movement of animals and contain the disease within the region. 
The Prime Minister, who has experience in disaster risk management, was part of the strategic discussions aimed at containing the situation before it spreads to other parts of the country.
