Ezulwini— Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo has called on Eswatini and his country to move beyond “administrative and political borders” to boost their economies and business ties.
Speaking on Monday during a visit to Eswatini, Chapo addressed a gathering of business leaders from both countries, urging them to see the two nations as one market with shared opportunities.
“We are neighbours and brothers. If we unite with shared responsibilities and investments, we can improve living conditions and grow our economies together,” he said. 
Chapo pointed to examples like the European Union, where borders have been largely removed to allow free movement of people and goods, and challenged African countries to do the same.
He called for a “common strategic vision” between Mozambique and Eswatini that would remove barriers limiting trade and investment, stressing that such unity is key for economic development.
Highlighting challenges, the president mentioned the lack of direct air links between many African countries as a major obstacle to business.
Chapo also urged countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which includes Eswatini and Mozambique, to think bigger and leverage their combined markets.
“There is no growth in isolation,” he said. “We have resources, and we must negotiate and invest to develop the region.”
He invited Eswatini’s investors to tap into Mozambique’s energy sector, noting the country’s vast potential in hydroelectric power, gas, solar, and wind energy thanks to its strategic location and natural resources.
“We should see the energy crisis as an opportunity for growth and profit,” Chapo said.
Beyond energy, he highlighted Mozambique’s strengths in tourism, agriculture, transport, and logistics. Notably, he pointed out Mozambique’s lack of quality golf courses despite regional demand, noting Eswatini’s ongoing golf course developments and South Africa’s over 500.
