Eswatini is working to implement international hotel service standards to boost its tourism sector, with key stakeholders meeting this week to discuss the adoption of ISO 22483:2020.
The Eswatini Standards Authority (SWASA) hosted the National Technical Committee on Tourism to review the new guidelines, which cover staffing, safety, hygiene, accessibility, and customer service. The standard aims to improve service quality, create jobs, and promote sustainable tourism while ensuring inclusivity for people with disabilities.
Representatives from multiple ministries, local municipalities, and Limkokwing University attended the meeting. The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs said adopting these standards would help Eswatini compete globally while preserving local culture.
“Meeting these benchmarks will require investment in training and infrastructure,” said a SWASA official. “But it will strengthen our reputation as a top tourism destination.”
