SIPHOCOSINI– Residents of Mahwalala and surrounding areas joined hands with the Royal Eswatini Police Service and local partners on Saturday, 21 June 2025, in a community wellness and crime prevention initiative aimed at creating a safer, healthier neighbourhood.
The event kicked off with a 12-kilometre road march from Siphocosini to Hilltop, followed by a high-energy aerobics session at the Hilltop Kwik Spar parking lot. Participants included officers from Mbabane Police Station, community police, students, and local organisations.
Mbabane Station Commander Mr. Sabelo Dlamini told the crowd that such initiatives are crucial in building social bonds between the police and the community. He raised concerns about the growing threat of gangsterism in Mahwalala, saying it is linked to serious crimes such as murder. He called on parents to be more watchful of their children and warned that early intervention was necessary to stop the spread of such behaviour.

“It takes the whole village to raise a child,” Dlamini said, urging collective responsibility in addressing crime in the area.
The event drew support from Hilltop Kwik Spar, Hybrid Sounds, B3 Insurance Group, MTN MoMo, Instacash, and students from Mbabane Christian University. Representatives from these organisations echoed the importance of physical activity in preventing non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and pledged ongoing support for similar efforts.
Zazi Dlamini, leader of the Mahwalala community police, said the initiative not only encouraged fitness but also opened space for critical dialogue about safety concerns.
“The walk and aerobics session brought the community together and provided a platform for us to discuss crime and related issues in the area,” she said.
