Nxumalo dismisses UNESWA fee hike claims

Manzini – Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo says he has not approved a request by the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) to raise tuition fees.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education and Training yesterday, Nxumalo said while Cabinet had acknowledged the need to review fees, no decision would be taken without thorough discussions involving all higher learning institutions.

The minister also provided updates on education funding, confirming that the final tranche of the Free Primary Education grant and the Orphans and Vulnerable Children grant will soon be disbursed. Principal Secretary Nanikie Mnisi said FPE payments will begin next week, while the DPM’s Office has already started processing the OVC grant. She further announced that food distribution to schools is underway.
