Dar es Salaam – Honourable Richard Msowoya, former Speaker of the Malawian Parliament, has arrived in Dar es Salaam to lead the Southern African Development Community Electoral Observation Mission to Tanzania’s general election on 29 October 2025.
Msowoya will oversee the coordination and representation of the mission throughout the election period. He is joined by observers from SADC member states, including Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, alongside officials from the SADC Secretariat.
The arrival comes ahead of the official launch of the observation mission on 21 October 2025. Observers are currently undergoing refresher training from 16 to 19 October, covering legal, constitutional, and electoral frameworks relevant to Tanzania’s elections.
The government of Tanzania extended an official invitation to SADC to monitor the presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections. The mission will conduct field observations on election day and release its preliminary statement on 31 October 2025.
