SADC backs Namibian candidate for Interpol president

Windhoek – SADC has officially endorsed Major-General Anne-Marie Nainda of Namibia as its candidate for the presidency of INTERPOL. The announcement comes ahead of the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly, scheduled from 24 to 27 November 2025 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Major-General Nainda, currently Deputy Inspector General for Administration in the Namibian Police Force and INTERPOL Executive Committee Delegate for Africa, has served in law enforcement for over two decades. Her experience spans policing, security cooperation, and transnational crime prevention.

Namibian Police Inspector General Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo said Nainda’s nomination reflects Namibia’s dedication to global security and multilateral policing. He noted that her leadership is crucial as the world confronts evolving threats such as cybercrime, human trafficking, terrorism, environmental crimes, and emerging transnational criminal networks.

If elected, Nainda would lead INTERPOL, which counts 195 member countries.

The Namibian Police Force hosted a farewell dinner for Major-General Nainda ahead of the election, recognising her decades of service and her role in strengthening international policing ties.
