The Taiwan–Eswatini Aquaculture Research and Production Centre has introduced the endangered Orange Fringed Largemouth Bream, marking a milestone in native fish conservation. The initiative forms part of ongoing collaboration between Eswatini and Taiwan.
Experts from the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity visited the centre to support breeding and restoration efforts for the rare species. During a field survey in the Hhohho region, the team located juvenile fish and collected aquatic plants to aid future breeding programmes.
The project aims to breed the species sustainably and eventually return them to their native habitats in Eswatini and South Africa. The fish will also be displayed at the centre to raise public awareness about biodiversity conservation.
