Pretoria – South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, announced the launch of a new online platform, myhomeaffairsonline.dha.gov.za, designed to allow South Africans to verify their citizenship status and confirm the reinstatement of citizenship that had been previously withdrawn. This digital service, which is part of a broader initiative to modernize public services, eliminates the need for queues and paperwork.

Instead, the platform uses facial recognition technology and machine learning to verify identities and correct records in the national population register instantly, all from the comfort of users’ homes, anywhere in the world.

Schreiber highlighted that the platform not only meets the Constitutional Court’s order for the reinstatement of citizenship but also positions South Africa’s Home Affairs at the cutting edge of global digital service delivery. The technology behind the platform is expected to improve future services and law enforcement in areas such as immigration and citizenship by reducing manual verification processes.
