Muscat – Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq have presided over the signing of a series of agreements covering solar energy, minerals exploration and petroleum infrastructure, marking a significant step in the two countries’ growing economic partnership.
The agreements were signed during President Boko’s working visit to Oman, which ran from April 12 to 14, 2026, following the official talks the two leaders held aimed at consolidating and expanding areas of cooperation between their countries.
Among the agreements signed was a deal for the development of a 500 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant with battery storage, a project that represents a major push towards sustainable and reliable energy supply for Botswana. 
Through the Botswana Geo-Science Institute, a joint exploration agreement was also concluded with Minerals Development Oman to unlock value in copper, gold, graphite and iron ore, opening a new chapter in Botswana’s mining and minerals sector.
A further agreement was signed between OQ S.A.O.C. and Botswana Oil Limited, covering critical infrastructure projects including coastal storage in Walvis Bay and the Tshele Hills Strategic Petroleum Depot. The projects are designed to strengthen Botswana’s supply chains and improve national energy resilience.
