Nairobi – The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has signed an agreement with the Kenyan government to establish its first regional office in Nairobi, a move aimed at scaling infrastructure investment and industrial development across East Africa.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and AFC President and CEO Samaila Zubairu signed the Host Country Agreement in a ceremony witnessed by Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto on the sidelines of the AFC Annual General Meeting.

The Nairobi office is expected to position Kenya as a strategic hub for infrastructure financing, drawing on its already established role as a regional centre for logistics, finance and technology. AFC has said it plans to mobilise over US$2 billion in the region over the next three to five years, with key sectors in its sights including transport corridors, energy, special economic zones and digital infrastructure.

President Ruto said the partnership strengthens Kenya’s standing as a top investment destination and a gateway for regional growth, while boosting the country’s ability to deliver large-scale projects in line with national development priorities.

AFC’s Zubairu said the Nairobi office will allow for faster project origination, better structuring and greater capital deployment across interconnected markets in the region.

The expansion builds on AFC’s existing footprint in Kenya, where the corporation has committed over US$1.3 billion since 2017 across energy, transport and industrial projects. These include the Dongo Kundu Integrated Industrial Park and the Naivasha Special Economic Zone II.
