Matsapha police arrest suspect in kombi driver murder

Matsapha – Matsapha police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old man from KaShewula in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old kombi driver from the Buseleni area, who was shot four times and died four days after the attack.

The suspect was arrested on 27 April 2026 at around 17:00 while in Manzini City Centre, following an intensive investigation into the killing. The victim, who was servicing the Manzini-Lomahasha route, was attacked on 17 April 2026 at approximately 23:55 while at Eteni, Matsapha, where he had stopped to drop off a passenger. After the passenger alighted, an unknown gunman shot him four times in the body and fled the scene. The victim was taken for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries on 21 April 2026.

Police believe the motive behind the murder is linked to kombi wars over routes.

The suspect, who also works in the transport industry, faces additional charges under the Arms and Ammunition Act after he was found in possession of a star pistol and one live round of ammunition without a licence or permit at the time of his arrest. A 39-year-old man from the Ngudzeni area was also charged alongside the suspect for the illegal possession of the same star pistol.
