Kampala – Uganda has moved to reassure travellers, investors and tourism partners that the country remains open for business following reports of Ebola cases linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Uganda Tourism Board made the assurance on Monday, 2 June, saying all tourism establishments remain fully operational and safe for visitors.

The board said Uganda has registered a total of 15 cases associated with cross-border movement from the DRC. The affected individuals were promptly identified, isolated and are receiving medical care under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. With the exception of one Congolese national recorded more than a fortnight ago, Uganda has recorded no other fatalities.

The Government of Uganda has activated measures to prevent further transmission, including the temporary closure of the Uganda-DRC border, screening, contact tracing and monitoring.

UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa said Uganda has a strong track record in managing public health emergencies and that its health systems remain fully engaged.

Travellers and tourism practitioners are urged to continue observing standard hygiene practices, including regular handwashing, use of hand sanitisers and adherence to health guidance issued by the Ministry of Health.
