Manzini – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) vows to intensify crime prevention as its National Commissioner, Manoma Vusie Masango, pledges to hit the country’s crime hotspots with a crime prevention campaign.

Masango stated that the police will expand patrols, raise police visibility in crime hotspots, respond quickly to reported crimes, and strengthen community policing and neighbourhood watch systems to improve community safety and security.

Manoma was accompanied by his deputies and senior leadership, which included Deputy National Commissioner Wendy Hleta and Senior Assistant National Commissioners Raphael Maseko and Charles Simelane, as the police met with the Regional Administrator and the Manzini North Member of Parliament Mashayinkonjane France Nhlengetfwa constituency team.

The police crime prevention programmes are supported by collaborative efforts with schools, community leaders, businesses, and residents, with Masango promising to focus on reducing robberies, housebreaking, and theft, as well as gender-based violence, narcotics, and substance misuse, which are prevalent.

The commissioner of police emphasised a coordinated and collaborative approach to fighting crime and reducing the crime rate.

“As steward of the police, I pledge our full commitment to intensify patrols and increase police visibility, respond swiftly to reported crimes, enhance community policing and neighbourhood watch schemes, protect victims and witnesses with dignity and respect, and strengthen investigations and ensure that offenders are brought before the court. The primary responsibility of REPS is to protect life and property, maintain law and order and ensure that every citizen lives in peace and security. Crimes undermine economic development, community cohesion and public confidence. Let this campaign mark the beginning of renewed commitment and stronger partnerships throughout Manzini North and other parts of the country,” Masango said.

Manzini North MP Nhlengetfwa said legislators have a duty to make laws that dismantle crime in its entirety, saying he hopes crime in the constituency will be cleared.
