Zambia, Lusaka – On Saturday, armed gunmen carried out an arson attack in the Western Province of Zambia’s Lukulu District, killing at least seven Kamboyi residents.
Provincial Police Commissioner Rae Haamonga confirmed the incident and said there were an unknown number of attackers armed, setting ablaze at least five houses and their contents. It was also said that they stole at least 43 cattle, including bulls, cows and oxen branded VR/68, valued at over 370,000 Kwacha.
According to reports, the attack occurred approximately 20 miles north of Lukulu Boma on the Lukulu-Watopa off-road. Six of the seven victims are claimed to have died on the spot, while one youngster, aged one year and five months, was allegedly murdered with a hammer. Several more were hurt when the assailants set fire to the village, including one victim who had significant head wounds and three others who were treated for burns.
Police have launched investigations involving murder, aggravated robbery and arson in relation to the incident.
