South Africa, Mooiplaas – A joint South African Police Service (SAPS) and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) operation led to the arrest of two suspects who were found in possession of firearms and military gear at Mooiplaas Informal Settlement, Erasmia, on Saturday, 06 June 2026.
According to a SAPS, the intelligence-driven operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect, bringing the investigation into a burglary at a military facility in April 2026 closer to completion.
Two R4 rifles with ammunition, a replica firearm, and a traffic officer’s uniform were recovered in the operation, with cases of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of government property, and contravention of immigration legislation opened against the suspects. 
Police said more investigations are being conducted to discover whether the suspects are connected to other illegal operations.
