South Africa has announced a drop in fuel prices.

Pretoria – Fuel prices in South Africa are set for another drop from Wednesday in the latest adjustments announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.

Petrol 93 will decrease by R2.01 per litre, while 95 will decrease by R1.96 per litre. Diesel prices will fall by between 313.8 and 358.8 cents per litre.

Based on current local and international factors, the adjustments take effect from 1 July 2026, the department spokesperson Robert Maake said in a statement.

In Eswatini, the minister of natural resources and energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela Dlamini, hinted at doing the same last Friday as Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini toured the Phuzamoya Strategic Oil Reserve, stating that the ending of the war in the Middle East was the contributing factor.

In South Africa, fuel prices are adjusted monthly. The international crude oil and finished fuel imported products, including importation costs and shipment, contribute to this.

Crude oil prices decreased from 104.59 US dollars (USD) to 86.53 USD following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the US and Iran, which has improved the global supply outlook.

Petroleum product prices also fell following the decreasing trend of crude oil, leading to lower contributions to the basic fuel prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 295.97 cents per litre (c/l), 498.47 c/l and 510.51 c/l, respectively.

There’s also the strength of the Rand in the markets. Against the US dollar, the rand appreciated from 16.52 to 16.38 rand per USD, also assuring the lower contributions to the segments above.

Illuminating paraffin will become cheaper while LPG gas will increase by 16 cents per kilogram nationally and 19 cents per kilogram in the Western Cape and Sardinia Bay.

The slate levy has been reduced by 43.8 cents per litre in the petrol and diesel price structures, from 157.74 c/l to 113.94 c/l, while the temporary fuel levy relief is phased out.

The cumulative slate amounted to a negative balance of R13.32 billion for petrol and diesel at the end of May 2026, the statement said.

“In line with the provisions of the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, the Slate Levy of 113.94 c/l will be implemented in the price structures of petrol and diesel with effect from 1 July 2026.”

The short-term relief measures have been completely phased out and the full fuel levies of 429.00 cents per litre on petrol and 416.00 cents per litre on diesel will be reinstated.

Based on current local and international factors, the fuel prices for July 2026 will be adjusted as follows:

  • Petrol 93 (ULP and LRP): 201.00 c/l decrease.
  • Petrol 95 (ULP and LRP): 196.00 c/l decrease.
  • Diesel 0.05% sulphur: 313.80 c/l decrease.
  • Diesel 0.005% sulphur: 358.80 c/l decrease.
  • Illuminating paraffin wholesale: a 523.00 c/l decrease.
  • SMNRP for IP: 697.00 c/l decrease.
  • Maximum Retail Price of LPG: a 16.00 c/kg increase and a 19.00 c/kg increase in the Western Cape.
