Trump records over R1.3bn in media lawsuits

US President Trump has reported an income of R1,313,496,000 ($80 million by today’s exchange rate) from lawsuit settlements with various media outlets for the year 2025, but which corporations settled? 

These would be included in the 927-page mandatory financial report, which was made available to the US Office of Government Ethics to document the financial tracking. 

Trump has filed a pile of lawsuits against some media and tech giants including BBC, ABC, CBS, Meta, YouTube and X.

According to information sourced online, Trump sued the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for $10 billion regarding heavily edited January 6th, 2021, speech footage in a Panorama documentary.

ABC News settled a defamation suit of $15 million regarding comments made by Gearge Stephanopoulos.

CBS/Paramount Global agreed to pay a $16 million settlement to cover legal fees and contribute to Trump’s presidential library from a $10 billion suit over the editing of a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris.

In 2021, YouTube settled a censorship lawsuit of $24.5 million regarding the suspension of Trump’s account following the January 6 Capitol riots.

Meta resolved a $25 million lawsuit after Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended, while X settled a $10 million lawsuit after Trump’s account was deleted.

According to sources, the assets were transferred to a trust rather than to him directly.
