MBABANE – April 28, 2025 — Efforts to reshape Eswatini’s digital finance future gained momentum as key stakeholders gathered yesterday to launch the National Fintech Strategy workshop in Mbabane.
The two-day workshop, led by the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, is a crucial step toward creating a coordinated and inclusive roadmap for the country’s fintech sector. Backed by technical support from the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) and consulting firm Olayinka David-West Consultants (ODWC), the initiative seeks to build a financial ecosystem that is modern, accessible, and relevant to the needs of all EmaSwati.
The workshop follows the 2023 Fintech Landscape Scoping Report, which examined Eswatini’s current digital finance environment, identified areas needing reform, and recommended a unified national strategy.

“We want a financial system that works for ordinary citizens, supports small businesses, and is flexible enough to grow with changing times,” said Lungile Dlamini, Director of Operations at the Central Bank.
Participants were divided into working groups to brainstorm strategic initiatives and key activities that will guide the development of a comprehensive fintech policy. Their inputs are expected to shape Eswatini’s position as a competitive fintech hub in the region.
Representatives from the Centre for Financial Inclusion (CFI) noted the potential of digital financial tools to empower small and medium-sized enterprises by providing them with easier access to credit, payment solutions, and business tools.
Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Abner Dlamini, said Eswatini stands at a turning point where digital innovation is no longer just improving traditional finance—it is changing it entirely. He acknowledged the support of AFI and praised the Eswatini FinTech Working Group for its role in harmonising the country’s fintech agenda.
The Central Bank, FSRA, and the Ministry of Finance all pledged their full support for the implementation of the strategy once finalised.
