Basotho honour King Letsie III in Berea birthday celebrations

BEREA, LESOTHO – Basotho communities gathered at Lioli Pitso House in Berea on Wednesday to celebrate the 62nd birthday of His Majesty King Letsie III.

The event brought together residents from Lioli, Maroala, and Mats’ekha who lined the grounds in a colourful show of unity. Despite the cloudy skies, the celebratory atmosphere remained lively, with song, dance, and cheers welcoming the King.

A parade took centre stage at the ceremony, with mounted police officers from the Lesotho Mounted Police Service leading the escort for King Letsie III. Loud ululations echoed around the arena as Basotho women paid tribute to their monarch.

Royal family members, including Prince Lerotholi, Princess Senate, and Princess ‘Maseeiso, were present before the King’s arrival, joining the celebrations with hundreds of well-wishers.

The event attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including the Chief of Staff of the Eswatini Defence Force, the President of Botswana, ambassadors from China and the European Union, as well as representatives from the United Nations and other diplomatic missions.
