Police report arrests in murder, fraud and drug cases

MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has recorded a series of arrests across the country between 14 and 20 August 2025, with cases ranging from murder and attempted murder to drug trafficking, fraud and theft.

At Pigg’s Peak, a 40-year-old man from Mgobodzi was taken into custody after a 50-year-old from Vusweni was fatally shot with a 12-bore shotgun. The victim was confirmed dead upon arrival at Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital.

Four men aged between 26 and 48 were arrested at Lavumisa Border Gate after officers discovered 123.39kg of dagga concealed between wooden planks in a truck.

In Mbabane, three men from Thunzini and Mafutseni were linked to the theft of industrial metal components valued at E500,000 from Ngwenya Mine. Police confirmed that the stolen property was fully recovered.

An attempted murder case was reported in Hhotela, Nhlangano, where a 46-year-old man allegedly shot his 32-year-old nephew in the neck with a pistol.

At Hlathikhulu, two men aged 48 and 31 were arrested along the MR9 public road at Buseleni for transporting 170kg of dagga in a Nissan van without a permit.

Police also made arrests in Hluthi, where a 37-year-old man from Zameya and two women aged 29 from KaMfishane and Luve were charged with defrauding Buy Cash Hardware of E208,040 between February and June this year.

Meanwhile in Siphofaneni, a 52-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of a 45-year-old resident of Themba. The victim, who had been assaulted and repeatedly stamped on, later died at Sithobelweni Health Centre while receiving treatment.

The police service stated it continues to work with stakeholders to ensure public safety and called on citizens to report suspicious activity through its emergency lines.
