Mbombela – Football fever has gripped the region after tickets for the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC sold out just hours after going on sale on Monday.
The clash is set for Saturday, 13 September, at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 pm. Gates will open at 2:00 pm and organisers have urged ticket holders to arrive early to avoid congestion. Officials confirmed that no tickets will be sold at the stadium on match day.
The Premier Soccer League announced last Friday that sales would open on 1 September. By midday Monday, every seat had been taken, showing the level of excitement surrounding the Wafa-Wafa cup decider.
Pirates booked their place in the final after edging Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 on penalties in a tense semi-final. Stellenbosch secured their historic final spot with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Sekhukhune United.
The winner will walk away with R10 million while the seven other teams in the competition each receive R1 million.
This year’s final also marks a return to Mpumalanga, with the province hosting the MTN8 showpiece for the first time since 2016 when Bidvest Wits defeated Sundowns 3-0. In recent years, Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium has been the preferred venue, staging all finals since 2020.
Fans who missed out on tickets will still be able to catch the action live on SuperSport PSL Channel 202 and SABC 2. Organisers have promised pre-match entertainment, with details expected to be unveiled in the coming days.
