Eswatini students learn about cyber crime

Mbabane – The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, in partnership with the Eswatini Communications Commission, hosted a guest lecture on computer and cyber crime at Limkokwing Eswatini on Thursday, 2 October 2025. The event marked Cybersecurity Awareness Month and carried the theme “Secure Eswatini – Be Safe Online.”

Cybersecurity expert Mxolisi Dlamini addressed an audience of aspiring digital forensic specialists, coders, and system designers. He explained key legislation including the Computer Crime and Cyber Crime Act of 2022, the Data Protection Act of 2022, and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2022.

Dlamini detailed the consequences of cyber offences such as cyber bullying, stalking, and online fraud, urging participants to stay informed about developments in cyberspace. He noted a 37 percent increase in social media engagement among emaSwati, stressing that digital safety starts with individual responsibility.

Attendees were encouraged to consider their personal cyber footprint and the role they play in protecting Eswatini’s digital environment.
