Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has received an Effective Governance Peace Division award from the African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department in recognition of Eswatini’s governance system and its role in maintaining national stability.

The award was presented yesterday at the Private and Cabinet Office in Mbabane by Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security at the African Union Commission.

Speaking after the ceremony, the Prime Minister said, “Yesterday, I was honoured to receive, on behalf of the Kingdom of Eswatini, an award for Effective Governance – Peace Division from the African Union’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) Department.”

He said the recognition was for the country’s use of the Tinkhundla system of governance in sustaining peace and stability.

“This award recognises Eswatini for effectively utilising the Tinkhundla system of governance to maintain peace and stability in the country. It further affirms the noble and wise leadership of His Majesty the King, who continues to be a steadfast champion of peace across Africa and the world at large,” he said.

Dlamini also acknowledged the role played by the African Union officials in conferring the accolade.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, PAPS Commissioner, who found it fitting to personally present this award at the Private and Cabinet Office. We are equally grateful to the African Union Commission for this significant recognition, which not only affirms that our Tinkhundla system of governance is a resilient and contextually responsive model for inclusive governance, but also cements the country’s position as a beacon of peace, stability, and constructive dialogue on the continent,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that the Kingdom would continue to pursue policies aimed at unity and inclusive governance.

“As a nation, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continue fostering peace, strengthening social cohesion, and advancing inclusive governance for the benefit of all emaSwati and the broader African community.”
