The Swaziland National Association of Teachers has been granted permission to march in Mbabane on Monday, April 20, 2026, after the Municipal Council of Mbabane issued a formal permit for the procession.
The march, which is set to begin at 10am and run until 2pm, will see the union deliver a petition to the Eswatini government. The permit was issued on April 17, 2026, following a consultation meeting held on the same day.
The permit, signed under the Municipal Council of Mbabane letterhead and addressed to SNAT’s Lot Vilakati, was issued in terms of Section 37 of the Urban Government Regulations of 1969, which governs processions and gatherings in urban areas.
“In terms of the powers vested in the Municipal Council of Mbabane by virtue of the abovementioned Regulations, following the Consultation Meeting held on the 17th April 2026, you are hereby granted a permit to conduct a procession in order to deliver a petition,” the letter read.
The union wasted no time announcing the development, telling its members and the public that everything is set for Monday morning. SNAT made clear that attempts by authorities to block the march would not succeed, taking direct aim at several officials by name.
“Fakudze (Regional Commissioner) Won’t Stop Us! Nuro (Mbabane Station Commander) Won’t Stop Us! Madlopha (ROO) Won’t Stop Us!” the union declared in its announcement.
The procession will start at 10am from a designated point in Mbabane, with participants expected to turn out in large numbers.
