New York – Lesotho’s Minister of Labour and Employment Ts’eliso Mokhosi has told a United Nations forum in New York City that his country remains committed to safe, orderly and regular migration, calling for a global push toward migration driven by opportunity rather than poverty or climate pressures.

Mokhosi was delivering a statement at the International Migration Review Forum in New York City this week, where he made the case for continued efforts to expand safer migration pathways and create new global opportunities for Basotho workers.

On the sidelines of the forum, Lesotho and Qatar agreed to fast-track a Bilateral Labour Agreement and broaden cooperation across tourism, healthcare, technology and logistics. Qatar also expressed interest in Lesotho’s water sector projects and in creating job opportunities for Basotho in the sporting and mega-events industry.
