The Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration took its human rights awareness outreach to the Mahlalini Umphakatsi community in the Shiselweni Region over the weekend, drawing 65 participants including women, men and inner council members for a session on rights, responsibilities and conflict resolution.
Of the 65 participants, 36 were women, 18 were men and 11 were inner council members. Chief Mdokwane Sibandze also attended the session, a presence the commission said added significant weight to the gathering and reflected a commitment from traditional leadership to advancing human rights at community level.
The session covered participants’ fundamental rights alongside the responsibility to respect the rights of others, prevent violations and speak out against abuse. The commission also walked participants through the importance of fair and respectful conflict resolution, making the case that just processes strengthen peace, harmony and social cohesion within communities. 
The commission said the openness and engagement shown by participants pointed to a community eager to build a safer, fairer and more united society.
