Johannesburg – Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, also known as Jub Jub, was taken into police custody after being arrested on Sunday. He was charged with kidnapping an e-hailing male driver and firing his gun during a confrontation in which he accused him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.
The dramatic incident unfolded in Edenvale, 25 km out of Johannesburg on Sunday morning.
The motorist allegedly dropped off a female passenger in the vicinity. Jub Jub, who hosted Uyajola 9/9, allegedly forced the driver into his vehicle, detained him, and fired a gun at him. He escaped unharmed and promptly went to the nearest police station to file a report. Cops responded shortly and arrested him. He was charged with kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a handgun, and thwarting the course of justice.
Jub Jub was expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for his first appearance.
In 2010, Jub Jub was arrested over a fatal crash in Soweto in which he and a co-accused drove into a group of schoolchildren, resulting in the death of four of them and injuring others while drag racing.
In 2012, he was convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison. However, in 2014 the high court overturned the murder convictions, replacing them with culpable homicide, which led to his sentence being reduced to 10 years. He was released on parole in January 2017.
